Why does allah tests us

Muslim or Non-Muslim, each one of us inevitably faces trials in our lives. Life is not a bed of roses for anyone. There are people who struggle with poverty, there are people who struggle with their health and then there are those who struggle with their family.

A common question which everyone asks in the middle of the tempest is this — why is Allah making me go through it? What did I do to deserve this?

Why Allah tests us? Lack of answers can sometimes distance people from Allah. They also need to be reminded that they need God in every minute of their lives. Sadly when God relieves the adversity, many of them return to idol worship once again:. O people, you are the ones who need God , while God is in no need for anyone, the Most Praiseworthy. When adversity touches the human being, he implores us while lying down, or sitting, or standing up.

But as soon as we relieve his adversity, he goes on as if he never implored us to relieve any hardship! The works of the transgressors are thus adorned in their eyes. When the human being is afflicted, he implores his Lord, sincerely devoted to Him. But as soon as He blesses him, he forgets his previous imploring, sets up idols to rank with GOD and to divert others from His path.

When adversity afflicts the people, they turn to their Lord, totally devoting themselves to Him. Allah tests us in order to make us better and stronger Muslims. The point where you overcome a test successfully, you are not the same anymore, you are now better prepared for further challenges, you have stronger belief in Allah and more hopeful of success. Allah said,. No calamity occurs, but by the permission of Allah, and whosover believes in Allah, He guides his heart.

And Allah is the All-Knower of everything. The tests of Allah are different for different individuals, custom-made according to their particular strengths and weaknesses. The things which seem like a trial to me may not even bother you a bit, and vice versa. Allah tests some people with poverty, others with emotional distress, others with illness, and yet others with prosperity and fame.

How come prosperity is a test? When things are going well, we tend to forget about Allah and the Hereafter, and death, and as a result we may lose the most precious thing to a believer — eemaan. Indeed, mankind was created anxious: When evil touches him, impatient, And when good touches him, withholding [of it]. And seek help in patience and As-Salah and truly it is extremely heavy and hard except for humbly submissive [to Allah] [].

The moment a trial strikes you, remember to be patient. The Prophet said, The real patience is at the first stroke of a calamity. The best way to do it is to just keep silent and pray to Allah for patience. If it is knowledge, or free time, or good health, or youthfulness, how do we use these blessings? It is not always easy to be generous with those blessings, and to use them for Allah rather than the ego—that is a great test too.

They were blessed with wealth and status too, but they used that to serve Allah and the Ummah. In fact, they were among those promised paradise.

So being tested with abundance does not necessarily mean that person is less beloved to Allah, they are just being tested differently. And Allah knows best. The Sunday Circle is a safe space for young Muslim women of all backgrounds to learn and discuss matters of life and faith.

We meet, come rain or shine, on Sunday mornings at Why are we tested? Related Listen to how it all started. Gratitude puts our tests in perspective and stops us from complaining; it is the greatest route towards Sabr.
